Unfree Journalist is the project-based thesis I made as a Journalism major student at Multimedia Nusantara University. This project was also part of the fellowship program by 2021 Data and Computational Journalism (DCJ) which was supported by the U.S. Embassy.
Unfree Journalist consists of three feature articles, written in narrative style, with the use of data journalism technique, and displayed through interactive multimedia storytelling. During ten months of work, I deepened my understanding of Indonesia’s press freedom condition that turns out not to be easy to reach the ‘free’ status. The name ‘Unfree Journalist’ was chosen because it concisely shows that the journalists here are not free to work.
