I started working at The Gecko Project as a research assistant intern in April 2022, and then some months later continued as a freelance journalist and research assistant at the same place. I have contributed to two published investigation projects so far.
First piece was Promised prosperity, drowning in dept which was published in late 2022. The project was the next investigation piece published after the previous plasma joint-investigation by The Gecko Project, BBC Indonesia, and Mongabay titled ‘The promise was a lie’: How Indonesian villagers lost their cut of the palm oil boom which was published in May 2022 and received 25th SOPA Awards on Excellence in Bahasa Indonesia News Reporting. I was helping with collecting data and interviewing some villagers who were supposed to be receiving plasma from palm oil firms in Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan. For another unpublished report about the plasma scheme, I also did a field reporting with Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) to Tanjung Jabung Timur, Jambi.
Second investigation was 'Green' finance bankrolls deforestation in Papua which was published in June 2023, with the Indonesian piece version collaborated with Project Multatuli titled Dalih Pembiayaan “Hijau” Menghancurkan Hutan Papua dan Kehidupan Masyarakat Adat published at the same time. It was my first project when joining The Gecko Project, where I was extracting dozens of field interviews in Zanegi, Papua and also a couple of documents and reports.
